Janice graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in June 2007
with a Bachelor of Arts degree, High Honours, in Psychology. Her thesis
focused on childhood chronic pain and health attitudes. She received
a university Honours Scholarship, was on the Dean’s List, and is a
life-time member of the Golden Key International Honours Society.
She served on the executive councils of the University of Saskatchewan
Biology Club and the Saskatoon Psychology Student’s Society, and worked
as an undergraduate teaching assistant. Janice was a research assistant
with the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit,
and the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology where she
studied obesity and diabetes, physical activity, and single fathers’
health. Janice plans on returning to school to obtain a Master’s degree
in anthropology.
She enjoys 80’s rock and modeling, is learning how to fence and play
squash, and currently helps a sponsor child in India through the Christian
Children’s Fund of Canada. As a first generation Canadian born of
Guyanese parents Janice embraces the cultural diversity of Canada.
She sees Miss World Canada as an opportunity to emphasize these values
and promote the importance of social science research and the benefits
of higher education, especially for women and the disadvantaged.
