Mom calls her a ‘jack of all trades.’ An award-winning athlete,
published academic, talented performer, and inspiring teacher, Shaela
Rae can’t sit still. At 17, she received scholarship offers to play
basketball, volleyball and softball, choosing SFU’s national champion
softball team where she trained with Team Canada. Weeks away from
completing her BA Honours thesis in Criminology, she plans to pursue
her LL.B. and B.C.L. at McGill Law, specializing in international
law and human rights.
Working full time to put herself through school, she is a server,
a support worker for young people with disabilities, and a teacher/tutor
at a local francophone community centre. Shaela Rae is a passionate
advocate for people with disabilities. She volunteers with Special
Olympics BC and has raised over $5000 this past year for her charity,
the North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association.
In her limited spare time, in addition to a rigorous training schedule,
and occasional dance and yoga classes, Shaela Rae escapes with music.
She is happiest when singing or playing piano. By age 18, she had
com posed a demo CD which was fully produced. However, with all of
life’s demands and her busy schedule, music remains tucked away as
her secret indulgence.
